WHAT HAPPENS TO THE COLLECTED PLASTIC
It is crucial that the plastic collected is treated with respect and in a way that prevents it from littering back into the waterways.
The plastic collected is delivered to independent (often government controlled) waste banks that handle the plastic, separating it into two categories:
Reusable plastic

Non-reusable plastic
THE COLLECTED PLASTIC
Reusable plastic
The waste bank sells this to plastic recyclers who are converting it into new raw materials that can be used to replace virgin materials in different industries such as:

Buckets, rope & plastic pallets

Flip flops

Soon it can be documented in Pack Tech packaging
THE COLLECTED PLASTIC
Non-reusable plastic
Non-reusable plastic is mainly burned or delivered at landfills in Indonesia in general. Typically the non-re-usable plastic that is collected due to the OWP-packaging ends up at landfills.
To burn and store plastic at landfills is a world wide trend that can only be changed by stimulating the demand for recycled materials. The higher a demand, the more money will be invested in technologies that make it possible to recycle even more plastic.
Another way to stimulate the amount of plastic that is recycled is to implement waste management- and deposit systems. When waste is kept in a close loop system, it can be recycled more easily than when e.g. collected in the nature.

THE 7 STEPS OF THE OWP DOCUMENTATION
This is how each step of OWP is documented
While we underline that there is no plastic from oceans and rivers in our current packaging, it is our ambition to include as much of this as possible in our future packaging.
