THE INITIATIVE
The plastic crisis facing Indonesia and our ocean is one of the biggest environmental concerns of our time. With OWP, Pack Tech aims to be part of the solution. When you invest in OWP you’re supporting the clean-up of plastic from oceans and rivers. Now, you will also be investing in improving marine wildlife in Indonesia. The OWP Sea Turtle Initiative is part of Pack Tech’s continuous efforts toward corporate social responsibility, aiming to not only improve marine wildlife in Indonesia but also positively impact local communities.
SEA TURTLES
Pack Tech is aware of the many threats facing sea turtles in Indonesia. They are poached for food, drown when fished out of the water, and habitats are destroyed by developers and climate change. Many sea turtles, unfortunately, also feed on plastic waste instead of jellyfish, causing them to choke and die. Sea turtles are on the brink of extinction. In many cultures, they are seen as a delicacy and are pursued for their eggs, meat, and shells. Their habitat is under constant threat from both climate change and human activity. Climate change is causing sea levels to rise and increasing the number and intensity of storms. This activity along with the constant development along coastlines, damages and destroys nesting beaches and makes it impossible for female turtles to lay eggs.
HOW IT WORKS
We are committed to helping baby sea turtles survive. Collaborating with the organization, Gate to Nature, we have 2 nests which together include more than 200 eggs. From these, the baby sea turtles will hatch in a safe and protected environment. When they have hatched, you will be able to follow their journey into the ocean. Gate to Nature works with the Turtle Conservation and Education Center in Bali, to improve conditions for sea turtles. Together they secure the eggs, which are at risk of being damaged, stolen, or have little hope of survival. By collecting the eggs, they help them hatch under protected conditions. When the baby turtles hatch, they are released back into the wild. Gate to Nature works with the Turtle Conservation and Education Center in Bali, to improve conditions for sea turtles.

They also run a rehabilitation center for injured sea turtles.
